Whitetail deer became North America’s most popular big game species. We can be found in nearly all of the smaller 48 nations. Habitat of a deer can vary from remote forest to farmed land to local golf course. They are incredibly capable of adapting to almost any environment. They get more than enough warning from their sense of smell and exceptional hearing to stop hunters and predators. check over here Hunters who go out to chase the deer need to use scouting and to fill their cover with every deer hunting tip possible.
Many states legalized the feeding of additional deer. This means hunters and nature watchers can distribute in an attempt to attract deer feed, minerals, and fruits. This article is not about feeding your deer or what could attract deer to your area. As we mentioned earlier, deer spans a vast range and their diet will be as varied as that. Deer hunters walking out into the woods and putting up a feeder for corn will be quite disappointed when the feeding station receives little to no use. Here are 3 tips to turn your deer feeder into a deer activity centre.
1) The feeder should be placed in a natural travel and feeding area. The deer must find food so it should be close to a travel corridor. It should also be in an environment where it feels natural and healthy for the deer.
2) Elevate the feeder away from the ground about 15 feet. This is my best idea, and the number of deer encounters I have around my feeders tripled. The deer just think corn is falling from the trees and a large tripod and feeder don’t make them nervous. The height also allows for distribution of corn / feed over a large area by the feeder. This is much more natural as acorns, and causes the deer to look for kernels. I guess it makes the deer calmer and takes their attention away from you too. I use a programmable timer with a basic five gallon feeder. A simple rope and pulley system is used to lift the feeder into place.
3) Talking about programmable timer. I set my feeding timer at 4 am. It brings on a variety of very important functions. The feeder’s noise didn’t spoke to deer while I was in the deer stand. The noise isn’t alerting other nearby hunters (trespassers). The deer are beginning to learn that food is only accessible in the immediate vicinity of sunrise for a short time, and then have it ready during legal hunting hours.
4) I still take a few extra minutes to conceal a normal cover feeder. Having a tripod feeder look like a tiny pine tree will make the deer much more comfortable. It will also make it somewhat easier for those neighbours to notice who may have walked beyond the property lines.
If you follow these simple tips you will no doubt see an increase in the activity of deer. They do not guarantee a deer harvest but their odds will be greatly improved.
