About the Artist
I am a self-taught mosaic artist living in Salida, Colorado. I started by taking a stained glass class.
I quickly learned that I wasn't very good at being contained to a pattern. My passion for mosaics began when I started sketching on an old piece of wood, which I then proceded to "color" in with broken pieces of stained glass. I love the whimsical emotion of the art and the concept that everything is made up of pieces. If you take a step back you can see the whole picture - that is the beauty of mosaics. I now cut every piece of glass by hand, and each piece is put into place by tweezers. My inspirations for my murals are women; I love creating the characters in front of my eyes. I love choosing the colors of glass and seeing how they play off of each other when hit by light. Another passion of mine is interior design, as it was only natural for me to create pieces that could be used in this way. I have fun making mosaic mirrors and furniture - playing with these designs feels like doodling in glass. In the future I hope to expand this type of mosaic work by doing tiles to be used in backsplashes and fireplaces.
